“The first person to think $110,000,000 for a Basquiat (sold at Sotheby's NY last year) was ridiculous would I'm sure be Jean-Michel himself. But his show at the Barbican would be just as strong if it had sold for a thousand dollars. He was in the right place at the right time and encompassed all that was exciting about NY in the dirty gritty late 70's & early 80's.
